Berkeley Energy Corporate Solutions (“BECS”) has been established by Berkeley Energy with the ambition of becoming the market leading provider of energy and decarbonisation solutions to commercial and industrial (“C&I”) customers in Africa.
BECS works closely with C&I customers to understand their energy needs. It then develops, builds, finances, owns, and operates on-site facilities that provide energy as a service to C&I customers, through long-term contracts to decarbonize their operations and save money. BECS is technology agnostic, offering not only ground-mounted or rooftop solar photovoltaic (“PV”) plants, but also a range of other solutions including battery energy storage, uninterrupted power supply, industrial steam using sustainable biomass, energy efficiency and cooling.
BECS is leveraging Berkeley Energy’s experience of building the leading C&I business in Asia, Berkeley Energy Commercial Industrial Solutions (“BECIS”), which has over 200MW of PV and 50tph of industrial steam in operations. BECIS has so far delivered solutions across 200+ sites in 8 countries in Asia, with a customer base consisting of multinational companies and leading regional and local corporations.
The Africa Renewable Energy Fund II (“AREF II”) managed by Berkeley Energy Limited, is funding BECS initially allocating €50m of equity investment that will enable the business to expand rapidly.
BECS has acquired Azimuth, which has 3.4MWp of solar PV in construction and operations and a pipeline of opportunities that provides a foundation for BECS’s growth.
“Berkeley Energy’s differentiated approach and track record are already well recognised in the C&I market. BECS is well-positioned to build on that and become a market leader in C&I energy solutions in Africa. We very much look forward to working with corporate clients to address their decarbonisation requirements across the continent.” – Luka Buljan, Managing Director, Berkeley Energy
