Corbetti – Geothermal – Ethiopia
Corbetti is a 500MW geothermal project with a concession area of some 750 sq/km. The first phase is a pilot project of 10MW followed by expansion by a further 50MW. The project is in the Corbetti Caldera, approximately 250km south-west of Addis Ababa near the town of Hawassa in southern part of Ethiopia.
Corbetti Geothermal is the first independent power project in Ethiopia. Berkeley Energy, through AREF, is the majority owner of the project.The project includes an access road, water pipeline, wells for water extraction, drilling of geothermal production wells, drilling of re-injection wells, installation of two (2) 5MWe wellhead generations plants and substation. A 15km transmission line is being built by the governmental agency, EEP. In addition, the project also involves a community water project.
